The site represents a way of life no longer practised, and associations with a original 3500 scheme settlers.
The Atkins were among the 3500 land scheme settlers in the Lake King region after 1928. The site of 's home is located close to the store and goods shed. It was the focus of social activities in the region until the hall was built in 1930, with dances and a wedding taking place in the large front room at the home. Swimming hole at Atkins. The water from the lagoon was used during droughts. It was pumped into Brandenburg's dam and then water was available at the standpipe. The AA Dam (behind the school) is a former government dam which was constructed by the sustenance workers during the depression. It has concrete bottom and sides.
