The place, for its building form and architectural characteristics, makes a positive contribution to the streetscape. It is representative of early suburban settlement within Maylands and has historic associations with the development of Ferguson’s foundry. Its architectural style is unusual for the area and reflective of the style used at Albany Bell Castle.
An unusual house with a castellated front parapet wall and an asymmetrical array of opening treatments to the front elevation. It has a gabled porte cochere and two bay windows with subtly different treatments. Render has been added to obscure the brick and stucco detailing. It has painted and unpainted render and stucco over brickwork, timber framed joinery and an iron roof.
A rare treatement of a simple cottage type, reflective of the treatments used on Albany Bell Castle and well worth conserving. The dwelling is situated in the 1899 Ferguson Estate that grew in response to the presence of Ferguson's foundry. It has rarity, is well known locally and contributes to the streetscape.
