The site of Delmage's Blacksmith's Shop has historic significance for its association with James Delmage and the development of commercial activities in Dongara.
The site of the blacksmith's shop presently houses two large sheds which are similar in construction having a corrugated iron gable roof with cement block walls. The original building was a small corrugated iron shed with a convex roof.
Delmage's Blacksmith's shop, built in about 1880, operated from this site and was one of several blacksmith's shops in Dongara. Later, the Costello family also operated a business on the site. The original buildings were demolished and replaced by the present structures in the early 1960's by B. A. Dawson. The present buildings were reconstructed from materials brought from the Big Bell townsite (near Cue) after the closure of the gold mine by Peter Dawson Snr. and Ken Clapp. Peter Dawson Snr. operated the AC power supply to the town from these premises until the late 1960s. The building operated has a hardware store from the late 1970s. (Source: IDHS Records and photograph.) 2004 The building currently operates as a hardware store.
