The place is an example of a stone residence representing the expansion of Fremantle in the gold boom period of the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. (Substantial additions 2004)
Originally a single storey stone with brick quoining residence to corners and window and door openings to the walls of the house and a corrugated iron hipped roof. In Feb 2004 a two storey addition to the front of the house is under construction.
A house was built on the lot for James Lilly in 1898. He was a Fremantle steamboat proprietor in 1880, a Justice of Peace in 1886 and an agent for the ships "Rob Roy", "Otway" and "Macedon". From 1885 to 1905 he was the director of the Fremantle Gas and Coke Company. From 1886 to 1889 he was the manager of an Adelaide Steamship Company.
