The Gascoyne Hotel is believed to have been built by Snook and Waldeck and was initially used as a boarding house. It received a hotel licence in 1911. Mr. R. Newman built the adjacent cement component of the Hotel. Mr. R. Newman stipulated that no women or children were allowed to board there as he had difficulties finding quiet accommodation when he came into town from his sheep station.
