Statement of Significance

This place has environmental and social significance. It has historic value for its association with Jim Claughton, who was influential to this part of Bayswater.

Physical Description

Public open space on the foreshore of the Swan River with flat and undulating grassed areas amongst clumps of River Gums and with reeded sandy beach to the river. An access driveway leads to a boatshed and launching ramp and there are riverside walking paths.

History

This parkland was a product of the move towards improvement of the riverfront, undertaken during the early sixties. During 1961, the Whatley Park Progress Association campaigned successfully for this reserve and it was named in honour of Jim Claughton, a tireless worker for that part of the district.
