The site represents a way of life.
In 1940 the Progress Association was successful in achieving
the installation of bulk grain facilities in Holt Rock. Tom Cox was the bin attendant and the bin
received grain for the season of 1940/41. Cox was the attendant at the Lake Varley and Holt Rock
bins which operated on alternative days. Later open "bulk head" bins were added to increase the
handling capacity. The grain is trucked direct to Esperance Port, as no rail service is available.
