Statement of Significance
Walga Rock has historic significance as an Aboriginal cultural site.
Management Category: High level of protection appropriate: provide maximum encouragement to
the owner to conserve the significance of the place.
Physical Description
A 2 km long granite monolith with a ‘cave’ on the north side that is similar in form to
Wave Rock. There are Aboriginal paintings on the rock that depict traditional images, as well as the
depiction of a sailing ship that is believed to have been a depiction of a 17th century Dutch ship seen
from the coast.
The area around the rock is managed and there is revegetation in progress.
