"Eloura' has historic value and architectural significance, although various changes have been made to the original structure. The Sherlock family came to the area just west of Bodallin to farm wheat They diversified by also breeding horses, though this was not over a long period of time. They kept a daily for a
while and also produced hay for their own horses and, in times of plenty, sold it commercially. During the 1930s sheep were introduced. The Sherlock home is a good example of a house that represents the building methods and building requirements of farmers in the 1920s. The house now has farmstay accommodation for tourists looking for alternative holidays.
The home of the Blyth family is located in a rural setting surrounded by many large trees. In front of the house is a traditional landscaped garden, well known in the district, with many varieties of flowering plants. The house now has a tiled roof which has been laid over the original corrugated iron. Inside, a large fibro kitchen extension was completed many years ago to allow for catering for large numbers of farm workers.
The rammed earth piese walls were made from local material and were then plastered and bagged. The floors of compacted anthill are now covered by a variety of floor coverings, carpets and linos. The rest of the house - three bedrooms, dining room and loungeroom, remain in their original form.. The verandahs have been enclosed to increase the living space.
Themes: Demographic Settlement & Pioneer Families
Though the original part of the house is still very much intact, the external view is changed with tiles and extensions.
