The John Forrest Lookout has very high historic significance for its association with early exploration through the district and for its connection to John Fonrest. The place also has considerable aesthetic value as one of the highest vantage points in the area vtfiich affords spectacular views of the surrounding countryside.
Access to the John Forrest Lookout is via a rough windy track. The lookout affords beautiful 360 degree views of the surrounding countryside. It consists of a stone cairn and a directional indicator mounted on a stone plynth.
During an 1897 expedition to Cue and Day Dawn, Sir John Forrest established his survey point on the top of this hill. This lookout forms part of the Damperwah Hills, which Forrest discovered and named during his 1869 search for the missing German explorer Ludwig Leichhardt.
