One of five major bridges across the Williams River within the Williams Shire. The previous
bridge was known as the 'one way bridge' due to it's narrowness. The difficulties early settlers
experienced before the construction of bridges over the river (Williams town 1855, then Boraning
and Quindanning 1896) is highlighted by the death of a Williams Roads Board member.
Located across the Williams River 3.4 kms west of Williams on the Quindanning Road. Piles are
marked XVI11/55.
On 3 August 1878, John Pollard, returning home from a Board meeting after dark, was drowned in
the Williams River. His saddled pony managed to escape from the flooded river and galloped home
to give the alarm. Police and local citizens searched in vain for the victim. Days later, a lone
traveller, while crossing the river lower down found the body firmly caught in the branches of a
tree. John Pollard was buried in the Old Williams cemetery. (1)
Known locally as "Warren's Bridge" after settlers of this name farming in the vicinity.
