Burmup/Bluff Rock has cultural heritage significance for the following reasons:
The place is one of a group of significant geographic elements that form the local Aboriginal creation story along with Kardarup/Mt Melville, Corndarup/Mt Clarence, Irrerup/Mt Adelaide and Yakkan Toort/Dog Rock, as a place of mythological significance.
The place is one of the group of significant granite mounts mentioned above that are strongly identified with the geography and aesthetics of the Albany townsite and as a group provide a unique scenic backdrop to Albany's city centre and harbours.
Although the smallest of the peaks, the granite knoll is a significant natural site and was identified on the earliest survey maps of the Albany townsite dating from the 1830s.
The place was a popular location for picnics, for enjoying the vista and for photography.

Burmup - meaning place of trees - is one of the four Albany peaks that dominate the townsite area, the others being Kardarup/Mt Melville, Corndarup/Mt Clarence and Irrerup/Mt Adelaide. Although Burmup/Bluff Rock is the smallest and least known, it was identified from the earliest days of British colonisation and noted on the original gazettal of the Albany townsite boundaries in the 1830s. Originally called Craggy Bluff, by the mid-1900s it started being more commonly referred to as Bluff Rock and was a popular lookout for enjoying the vista, as a picnic spot and also for photography. Bluff Street which runs through the reserve (off Tassell Street) and to the south was named after the rock.
As a bushland reserve slightly modified for public use and enjoyment, Burmup/Bluff Rock is now an attractive area, with trees dominating the bushland against a granite rock backdrop. The bushland is intersected with a number of firebreaks some of which are used as a trail to circuit the reserve system.
