Statement of Significance

The place has historic value for its association with the provision of Anglican services at this site since 1913.

The place has social value for the Anglican and wider Gosnells community for its association with many events at the site since the 1913.

Physical Description

All Saints Anglican Church is located on the south western corner of the Dorothy Street and Hicks Street intersection. The church has been designed in the Late 20th Century Perth Regional Style and is of red brick and iron steel construction. The church has a typical vertical emphasis although expressed in a modern way with an asymmetric roof form of a split skillion. The windows are a combination of full height openings and clerestory windows around the church. The church is simple in its design and expression.

The Parish Centre is on the same site, located behind the church with a stronger relationship to Hicks Street. The structure is of pale brick construction with a corrugated gable roof. Windows to the side elevations are aluminium openings whilst the gabled south-eastern elevation incorporates a full height narrow window extending to the apex of the gable. Full height brick piers flank the gable window.

The church and hall are positioned on the edge of the lot with car parking to the rear and minimal planting around the site.

History

The first Anglican services at Gosnells were held in the hall behind the Gosnells Hotel until the All Saints Church was built in 1913. It was a timber and asbestos gable building with timber dado, a bell tower frame on the roof and an entry porch. It was dedicated by Bishop Riley, 20 December 1913. A parish room was added and opened 1 November 1951.

Gosnells was originally part of the Cannington parish then was created as a parish in its own capacity on 1st June 1950.

During the 1950s the Gosnells community underwent significant increase in population and economic prosperity. Consequently all of the church facilities were found to be inadequate for the increasing demand on services. The Anglican Parish of Gosnells built a church hall adjacent to the church in 1958, the current church was built in 1982, and the parish centre in 1988.
