The Former Railway Dam has historic significance for its association with the operations of the railway in the town. Together with the Station Master's House [Place No. 15], the Railway Workers' Houses [Place No. 16], railway bridge [Place No. 19] and the railway platform [Place No. 18], the former Railway Dam assists with the interpretation of local railway heritage and history.
Located on the north side of town, this large concrete lined dam is now used by the Water Authority. It is surrounded by a wire fence.
