The site has associations with a way of life, the wars, and the Connell family.
Fruit trees among the milled pine plantation. One tree has the names of soldiers from World Wars One and Two scratched into the tree trunk
Dennis Connell came to the Colony in 1853 as a convict. In 1854 he was given Ticket of leave. He married in 1856 and had 9 children. One of his 5 sons was Weaver Dennis Connell. He was part of the pre-dominant Irish Catholic community in the Ludlow and Forrest Beach area where he squatted on this land and built a cottage.
Kitty O'Brien, the former sweetheart of Dinny (Weaver Dennis) Connell, was tragically burnt to death. Dinny was devastated at the death of Kitty, and eventually killed himself at this house. His family (wife and many children) vacated the house believing it to be occupied by Dinny's ghost. In the vicinity of the house site, names are carved into the tree trunks. In the 1920s pines were planted around the ruin.
