The building is significant on the following grounds:
1. Constructed in 1942 to store aviation fuel which had been in danger of attack from
carrier-borne Japanese aircraft.
2. One of only four such facilities in WA.
3. Closely linked with railway system and operation of Vacuum Oil Company.
4. In later years used for social activities to raise funds for sporting clubs.
5. Financed by American war funds.
Concrete, steel, earth and rock below ground structure for the
storage of fuel during period 1942/45.
Extent of original fabric: Only concrete forms and earth mounds, with rocks remain
