The site is significance for its association with the Lang brothers and early timber industry in the area.
Edward (Ted) and Will Lang came from South Australia to the goldfields then bought Hutt's Location 46, adjacent to the Tuart forest. They set up a steam driven mill to cut and prepare timber for the WA Government Railways. They hired brothers James and Gavin Forrest and their bullock team to haul the Tuart logs to the railway or the timber jetty at Seaview, to be picked up by coastal steamers. Langs were also wheelwrights, servicing drays and carts, and won a medal in the Paris Trade Fair for excellence. Both brothers built homes on Loc 46, had children, grew potatoes and ran cattle. Will later took over Ted's interest in the property.
