Statement of Significance

The house has historic and social significance through its association with the Armstrong family and as an early rural residence using local materials.

Physical Description

Original building which has been added to near the bank of the Serpentine River. Clay pit where bricks were made approx 150m west of house along river. Old orchard of fruit trees, almond, mulberry, orange, mandarin, apricot. Planted approx 1880. Three big sugar gum trees which were planted in 1904.

History

The house was built in 1868 by Mr Christopher Armstrong, son of Adam Armstrong (who was at one time Thomas Peel's surveyor). Christopher's son, Scott Armstrong, ran the property until it was sold to H.E.Gull in 1910.

Modifications: Three rooms added; corrugated iron roof.
