Statement of Significance

The place relates to the settlement of the Swan Valley. The Place is a very good and intact example of a very rare building construction type in the state which reflects early colonisation of the Swan Valley. The Place is a rare example of early mud brick construction in the state that is still inhabited.

The place is a good example of conservation and restoration work.

Physical Description

House of adobe construction (mud brick). Verandahs all round. The property also consists of stables.

History

The land on which the building stands was granted to Joseph Keys Logue, schoolmaster, in 1863. He opened a private school in the Swan Valley. Logue was a graduate of Trinity College, Dublin, who arrived in the colony in 1837. He probably built the house.

Building has been conserved and restored and was awarded the Shire of Swan Heritage Award in 1993. Restoration was based on research and historic photographs.

The place currently operates as a holiday cottage.
