Statement of Significance

Original soldier settler's house still maintaining its integrity. The doors and windows are original and very little has been done to the stone walls and iron roof. Remnants of the garden exist.

Physical Description

Homestead sited on a slight rise facing west and slightly off the Yandanooka N E Road. Federation style cottage built of local stone with iron roof. Bull-nosed verandah on north and half of west sides; hoop-iron lintels to external doors and windows, timber lintels over internal doorways; pressed metal ceilings (square pattern) double hung windows. Front lounge room has external pediment of lime/charcoal mix.

History

Jock Brown lived in a tent on site until clearing of the block was effected by hand. When sufficient funds became available from farm trading, the house was built.

Integrity: Most of the building is intact.

Fair, crack in corner of living room; owners are restoring
