The Carnarvon-Mullewa Road Gate on the Curbur-Mt Narryer Station boundary has considerable historic significance as evidence of how road transport operated through station country. The structure appears to have high authenticity with minimal changes undertaken since the that time it was in regular use. As other examples of road gates fall into disrepair or are removed, the significance of the Curbur-Mt Narryer Road Gate will be further enhanced due to increased rarity in use.
Located on the west side of the present Carnavon-Mullewa Road is a remnant road gate which provided access between the Curbur and Mt Narryer Station boundary fence. Sited approximately 50 metres from the road edge, the wide metal pole gate has wire mesh infill. A mulga post fence extends out either side over approximately 15 metres. Thereafter, the boundary fence consists of a combination of mulga and metal posts with wire between.
Prior to the introduction of road grids following WWII to prevent stock from crossing, run throughs were used where internal station fencing crossed a road and at each station boundary along the road route. Prior to this gates were in use on boundary lines. At one time about 30 gates (now replaced with grids) existed on the Murchison Shire section of the Carnarvon-Mullewa Road. The road gate at Curbur-Mt Narryer Station boundary is now one of only a few that remains in the district and is highly visible and accessible from the Carnarvon-Mullewa Road.
