The site has associations with the educational, religious, social, sporting and community activities in Lake Hinds, and the settlers of that area since 1913.
School 1913, Hall 1937.
Lake Hinds was the first school in the Wongan Hills District. It opened in 1913, with Miss Dorothy Fox as the teacher until 1916. It operated through until 1947 when a school bus service transported the children to Wongan Hills School.
After heavy rains in 1917, which forced its closure for a short time, the school was relocated to a higher site. The school was the social centre of the district, with church services and social events taking place. There was also another school in the Lake Hinds area ta one time.
In 1929, the Ballidu agricultural hall building was relocated to Kulja and shortly afterwards to Kondut, before being relocated again in 1937, to Lake Hinds to be used as a recreation hall. A cricket pitch and tennis courts were constructed in close proximity to the hall. In 1945, the Roads Board donated monies to line the inside of the hall.
The hall was later relocated to the outskirts of the Wongan Hills township, and is used by the Girl Guides Association until 1997, when it was again reloacted. It is now part of the Wongan Ballidu Museum and serves as the education interpretive centre.
