Physical Description

White cylindrical concrete tower; lantern dome is red.

History

Originally constructed in 1950 with the lantern and stairs from Point Cloates as an acetylene light on a white round concrete tower 12.5 metres high, this light supports a red cupola with a white flashing light at an elevation of 64m. It was converted to solar electric FA 251 lantern in 1988 and the original lantern (from Cape Wickham in Tasmania) was removed. Built in the 1860s, this historic item is on loan from AMSA to the WA Maritime Museum. The characteristic and range is 4 white flashes every 20 seconds. Quobba is a wonderful example of how various elements of a lighthouse can be recycled.
