The place is representative of retailing at the tum-of-the-century.
The building is single-storey and sited on the south-east corner of Parade & Hall Streets. The building is built to the street alignment and is truncated at the corner. The building features a decorative rendered parapet that extends across both street elevations. A new awning clad in sheet metal wraps both street facades and extends over the pavement. The corners of the building's
truncation and the corners of the original building have rusticated pilasters.
The shopfront to Parade Street has been extensively altered. The facade featured an arched opening, now enclosed with timber framed windows with large panes and fanlights infilled with sheet metal. The window sill has been recovered in marble, and the wall retiled. Evidence remains of tuck-pointing to the north elevation, and rendered bands at window sill height. The north
elevation has two, double-hung sash windows with rendered angled sills.
The entrance is at the building's truncation. The door is replacement fabric and thé threshold covered in sheet metal.
An addition in stretcher bond brickwork, extends the building down the north elevation.
During the 1890s and particularly in the early 1900s, Pingelly's population was swelled by a steady influx of men from the goldfields seeking employment and somewhere to settle. The expanding population was further supplemented by the arrival of numerous immigrants during 1910-12. This increase in population had a great influence on the town's growth. It necessitated the survey of more town and suburban lots, increased subsidies for road construction and numerous buildings were constructed. As the main town of Pingelly became established, the main shopping area was in Park Street west. However, Parade Street eventually took over with larger shops such as Grace Bros.
