The Old Post Office has aesthetic, historical and social significance, with its pleasing bungalow style design, and having had many uses; originally the Post Office (the second built in Kojonup) then the Headmaster's House and now the Kojonup Historical Society.
Situated on a large block of land next to the school and behind the Spring Precinct, the Old Post Office is surrounded by large mature trees. The building is brick and has an iron roof. The facade is asymmetrical with a large arched timber framed window next to the front door. A timber extension enclosed with asbestos was built around 1913 when the Post Office was converted to a residence for the Headmaster of the School. The original turned verandah posts still remain at the front but the wooden floor has been replaced by concrete. There are timber floors throughout the interior.
The original Kojonup Post & Telegraph Office in Spring Street was built in 1897. It replaced the first post and telegraph office on Albany Highway. When the new post office was built on Albany Highway in 1913, this building became the Headmaster's house, given its close proximity to the school. It was later rented out as a residence until it became the headquarters for the Kojonup Historical Society in 1991.
Modifications: Additions c1913.
