Buildings, which due to their character create the atmosphere of Peppermint Grove, therefore should be retained, but may be altered and extended in a manner which is both discrete and sympathetic to the original fabric and character so that a significant proportion of the original building is retained and from the street the additions are seen to be a continuation of the same fabric and character.

Statement of Significance

This single storey painted brick, iron, timber, render and
pressed metal bungalow, in the Federation QueenAnne style,
has cultural significance because:
it is one of the finest examples of its style and period
in the suburb, displaying considerable skill in its
design, detail andmaterial selection;
it retains a high level of integrity;
it is comparatively rare and an exemplar of its style;
it is highly regarded by the community;
it is part of a cultural group and a townscape area

Physical Description

The place is one of the fmest and most intact examples of its
style within the suburb, although its liveliness has been
subdued by painting the face brickwork and reducing the
contrasts which the original decorative scheme would have
presented.

History

The place may have been built by Alice Bostock, the wife of
a commercial traveller c.1905, when the working-classes
were building their homes in what was consideredthe 'poorer'
section of Peppermint Grove. Some historical significance.

Integrity/Authenticity

Apart from its painted face brickwork the place is an
exemplar of its style. It is well considered in its massing,
proportions, use of light and shade, and its selection of
decorative elements and materials. It is complementedby the
appropriate and decorative front picket fence. It has a high
level of integrity.
