Statement of Significance

The site of the pumping station at Nallan has historic significance for its important role in supplying
the town of Cue with much needed water.

Physical Description

All that remains of the pumping station are concrete foundations in the water.

History

The lack of water was a major obstacle to exploration and prospecting. The pumping station
was constructed in 1906 by the Water Authority for a cost of £12,250. At the time a Water Board
was formed comprising of to Cue councillors, two Day Dawn councillors and government officers.
The pumping station pumped water through 5” black iron pipe wrapped in hessian and tarred along a
rising main to reservoir tanks on Cue Hill. The pumping station closed in 1975 ad the main town
borefield developed as the salinity in the Nallan water had increased.
