Statement of Significance
Jalbarragup House is significant as an example of a home constructed during the early
years of settlement of the Blackwood region.
Physical Description
Jalbarragup House is a two roomed cottage constructed circa 1876 overlooking
Jalbarragup Swamp. The cottage is constructed of bricks made locally on the site and
has an iron roof. Internally the cottage has original Oregon ceilings. The original
kitchen was replaced approximately fifty years ago however the existing chimney is
probably original.
History
It is not known who originally built Jalbarragup House, however both the Blythe and McAttee families were associated with the early history of the property.
