The place has associations with the Layman and the Prowse families.
Limestone construction. Corrugated iron roofs extending over the surrounding verandahs. Square form with central hallway. Double storey limestone additions connect to the original house via glass conservatory.
'Avoca' was built for 'Dugite' Layman.
Ben Prowse was one of the largest landowners in the district before 1939, when he had bought 'Avoca' from the Layman estate and named it 'Rivervale'. Prowse married Esme Pidgeon. Ben Prowse's son James (Jim) now owns the property.
