The building makes a contribution to the streetscape of Tudor Street in its location at the street alignment with its heavy masonry shell and, because of its classical form.
The place has historic value as the attached residence is a demonstration of a way of life no longer practised, in which the bank manager and family were expected to reside in the building.
mmonwealth Bank is a single-storey building with an attached residence, built to the building line of Tudhoe Street.
The exterior walls of the building are rendered and paintec and extend beyond the roof line to a parapet that wraps the facade. The two joined structures are rectangular and are covered with hipped roofs. The residence has vented gablets.
The walls are built on a rendered plinth and wit the exception of the facade, the exterior walls are painted brickwork laid in stretcher bond.
The facade is modelled which divides the facade into four bays. The feature of the facade is the bay which projects the furthest toward the street. The bay contains an openirg which is framed by two square pilasters on pedestals. The opening has a semi-circular fanlight with a moulded sirround and a pronounced keystone. The building may possibly have been constructed symmetrically about this central bay which would have formed the entrance to the
building. The facade is now asymmetrical with two doubie-hung sash windows on the west side of the central bay
and one on the east side. The opening is now a window.
The verandah across the facade of the residence has been removed and a new verandah constructed - physical evidence of the original verandah is on the west wall. The entrance to the bank is now via the verandah on the west. An automatic teller machine has been installed to the street facade of the residence. A rendered sill and string courses are extant.
Both structures have been extended at the rear, the residence with a lean-to roof, possibly an earlier verandah, which is enclosed with fibro-cement lining. Brick additions extend the rear of the bank and has a skillion roof. The building has been re-covered with ribbed metal sheeting.
Documentary evidence unknown.
