Statement of Significance
The site represents a continuity of use on the site and associations with postal and communication services since 1898.
History
Boyanup's first postal service began when the railway line became operative in 1891, and the postmaster Mr Joyce, distributed the incoming mail and papers. Outward mail was less organised with no specific services in place. The need for a post office was presented by a local delegate to the Postmaster General, and following a successful petition, Mr Joyce was appointed as Postmaster in 1893. The first post office built on this site was in 1898. A succession of Postmistresses followed Mr Joyce, until 1925, when Mr Walton commenced a 25 year service. In 1963, the postmaster, Mr Wilf Rogers, bought the post office property from the Commonwealth Government and the post office became an agency. In 1978, Heather Chaplyn became Postmistress and the new proprietor, and constructed the existing post office which opened on 27 February 1981.
