The National Bank building has local significance for its role in the commercial development of the district. Further it has interesting design features and is in good condition.
Medium sized rectangular brick building with green painted corrugated iron roof. The roof has two hips, the front most hip covering the main entrance and windows to each side. This section appears to be the original building, a similar brick and window style having been used for the extension to the south. Brick quoining is used on the original section, the entry porch being enhanced by rendered masonry which extends above the roof line. There is a parapet wall to the south and the northwest corner has a verandah supported on timber posts. The rear windows are double hung with small panes. The rear doors also have small panes. The rear section is possibly used as a residence.
The bank was established as a receiving office on the 18th of August 1909 and converted to branch status on the 14th of December 1926. During the period 1942-46 this branch was maintained and took responsibility for the Mingenew office was downgraded to receiving status. In April 1995 until January 1996 opening hours were reduced to three days per week, after which full service recommenced.
Integrity: High
Modifications: Sympathetic extension to the south. Original entry door replaced with aluminium framed glass door.
