Physical Description

The Education Department is a perambulatory low rise building which maximises the southern exposure to the park and allows full development of the site. Being low rise allowed for a cost effective simple repetitive flat plate structural system. The columns are circular, chosen for aesthetic appeal and minimal cross section.

Offices are open plan with access primarily lateral. There are escalators in the central atrium and eight perimeter staircases.

The offices are approached by access ways which follow the major light wells running along the axis of the building.

The external cladding is aluminium and grey tinted glass which provides a durable, lightweight, thermally insulating façade, that is therefore economical to install and maintain.
