The place has significance as a commercial place in Mogumber. It is a landmark on the main road, identifying Mogumber. It has important streetscape and townscape value.
Stone building with rendered quoins. There is a verandah across the street frontage. Symmetrical frontage with a central door flanked by a sash window each side. Square timber posts on brick rendered pillars support the skillion verandah extension of the hipped corrugated iron roof.
The town developed rapidly in 1892 when the siding was established as the railhead at the north end of the Midland line. In c1899, James Atkinson took charge of the hotel, erected a store, and the town grew. The block on the north of the post office was a Mission block with stables. South of the post office was the Mogumber Hall which was popular in the 1950s.
