The site has significant associations with an event of national note.

Physical Description

Remains of the water tank stands and the Bindoon beach (dam for the railway water supply)

History

1953, the siding was the site of a brazen robbery. £3832/6/4 was stolen from the Midland Railway Company, and the perpetrators were eventually apprehended, after the case extended to New Zealand, and was finalised in 1954. The Midland to Walkaway train was carrying railway employees' wages in the goods van at the rear of the train. After stopping at Muchea and Mooliabeenie, a water stop was made at Cullalla. Stephen Doyle and Robert Steele lay in wait after riding bicycles through the bush from Mooliabeenie, where their getaway car and NZ accomplice Victor Hessell, waited. While the train staff enjoyed a break at the front of the train, they were being robbed.
