Some heritage value, but not essential to an understanding of the district. Alternatively the place may be of considerable heritage value but considered of irredeemable integrity value. Recommend that the place is not constrained by the Town Planning Scheme at this time. Re-assess the significance of the place when the Inventory is regularly reviewed. Assess in more detail when considering a development application. Record prior to redevelopment or demolition.

Statement of Significance

The place has associations with early settlers in the area, and the provision of schooling. It represents a way of life no longer practised.

History

Alf Kimber was a friend of H Carters of the Kokardine area, and settled at the same time, just north of the Carters. The railway was intended to come to "Burakin Rocks", and when the promised line did not eventuate, in 1911, Kimber moved west of Duli, about 10 miles from Ballidu, and settled this property. He called it "Woodleigh" after the Kimber Home in Clare South Australia.

After a tent home, then a timber and hessian dwelling, a homestead was built. In 1917 the farmers in the district erected a school room in close proximity to the Kimber house, and Mrs Kimber taught school. It was the first school in the district, and became known as the East Ballidu State School. Reverend Sullivan and others also held church services at the Kimbers.
