The place has associations with early settlers in the area, and the provision of schooling. It represents a way of life no longer practised.
Alf Kimber was a friend of H Carters of the Kokardine area, and settled at the same time, just north of the Carters. The railway was intended to come to "Burakin Rocks", and when the promised line did not eventuate, in 1911, Kimber moved west of Duli, about 10 miles from Ballidu, and settled this property. He called it "Woodleigh" after the Kimber Home in Clare South Australia.
After a tent home, then a timber and hessian dwelling, a homestead was built. In 1917 the farmers in the district erected a school room in close proximity to the Kimber house, and Mrs Kimber taught school. It was the first school in the district, and became known as the East Ballidu State School. Reverend Sullivan and others also held church services at the Kimbers.
