Statement of Significance

The former school building has historical and social significance with its association with the education of the children in the town and outlying region, and also being one of the earliest buildings in the town. It also has some aesthetic significance, as a simple weatherboard building in mostly original condition, set in a small park, which also contains the town's as a war memorial.

Physical Description

Small weatherboard, timber windows, corrugated iron roof.

History

The first school was built in 1922 in North Pingrup and officially opened in 1923. In 1928, owing to the number of students decreasing, the school was shifted to another site where a school was needed, to the east of the Lake Grace-Pingrup Road. This new location was on Neve Road midway between its former location and the town of Pingrup. With numbers again dropping, the hall was moved to its present location and used as the RSL Hall.
With the growth of Pingrup, a new school was needed in the townsite. The new school opened in 1955. In 1983 the CWA put a plaque on the building and it is now used as the town library.
