History

The land for the school/hall was donated by J. B. Sandow,
from part of his 'Belle Vista' property. In 1920, the Lower Chittering Hall was opened and served as an assisted school. In 1921, it became a government school. Originally it was just a hall, but then it had a stage, a northern extension and then a supper room and kitchen. The annual community Christmas Tree was held at the hall as well as community meetings, Red Cross, Fire Brigade, and church meetings. Monthly dances were held at the school/hall, and it was the venue for the Lower Chittering Show for the years between 1925 and 1950. The New Years Eve balls during the 1930s were memorable events, and in 1934, the travelling picture shows were screened at the hall. During the 1940s Army and Airforce personal travelled from Bullsbrook to socialise at the hall. The hall was owned and managed by community until 1946, when the Chittering Road Board took over. In 1947, the Chittering CWA was formed and meetings took place in the hall. The school continued to operate until 1952, when it closed. The hall was demolished in 1967.
