The site of Newman’s Warehouse, Pearse's Warehouse and McIntyre’s shop and post office has historic significance for its connection to the development of Port Denison as a port and later as a holiday destination.
Originally this was the site of Edward Newman’s and Francis Pearse's Warehouse, a weather board and shingle building constructed in 1868. The business (General Merchants and Shipping Agents) was bought out by Francis Pearse on Edward Newman's accidental death in 1872. In the 1920s the property was purchased by Jack McIntyre (lighthouse keeper) and his wife Harriet. They ran a tearooms and shop with post office and newsagents from the building. The business passed to their daughter Dolly in the 1940s who ran it with her husband Jack Sloper. Bookings for tables in the beach shelters, tennis courts and camping sites were made here. Slopers also sold hot water for teas, and hired fishing rods.
On the north side of the tearooms, the Denison water supply, a well and trough, was located. This site would now be located in the centre of the present day William Street.
