• The site has historic value for its association with the major program of irrigation works during the 1930s. These works made a significant impact of the development of the district for agriculture.
This site was the location of the Public Works Department Depot for the administration of the construction of the diversion dam at Wellington. Many of the unemployed men out of work as a result of the Depression sought work on this project and were housed in tents near the town.
The Public Works Depot which was located on this site was a central point for the distribution of work and information. Irrigation works continued in the area until the 1950s.
The site is now [2014] occupied by a residence built in 1961 which has no relationship with the former use.
