The place is representative of early development within Bayswater and makes a positive contribution to the streetscape.
Elevated brick house with corrugated iron hip roof with vented peaks and a surrounding verandah under the main roof supported on full height wooden posts with ornamental carved wooden brackets. The central front door has top and side lights and is approached by a series of cement steps through the terraced rock garden rising up from the street.
The house was built for Earnest Patten, a sales representative for Gold Estates, making it one of the early houses on this side of Slade Street. It was later occupied Charlie Newman, who purchased it from Bob Little in 1944.
