The Nungarin Railway Station site has historic significance as an acknowledgment of the role played by the West Australian Government Railways in the development of the town and district.
The station site is now vacant, and nothing remains except the railway crane (listed separately) and the foundations of the water tower.
The first train arrived in Nungarin on 28th August 1911. The line was constructed as an agricultural light line at a cost of £1000 per mile. A railway shed was built to house goods in transit. The first Station Master was not appointed until 1st July, 1943, so perhaps the station would have been constructed at about that time.
The building was a typical country weatherboard station with a corrugated iron roof overhanging on all sides to form extended eaves.
The station was closed on 30th June, 1973. The station building was sold and relocated to Mussell Pool at Whiteman Park.
