Statement of Significance

The Mt Palmer Cemetery was vested in the Yilgarn Shire on 27 September 1935. There was only one burial in this cemetery. It comprises a heart-shaped tombstone and several cement blocks. The transcription reads:
"To the memory of John E Jones - Died 14th August 1935 - Aged 70 years - 'Save by Grace". John Ebenezer Jones was originally from Mt Edigiton in Victoria. He had resided with his married daughter at Mt Palmer. This is said to be the smallest registered cemetery in WA.

Physical Description

The tombstone was found after much searching by the Southern Cross Historical Society members. The lone heart-shaped grave stone was found to be in good repair in the Mt Palmer Cemetery. Rough directions to locate the place are as follows: Enter the Mount Palmer townsite. Continue past the Mount Palmer Archway on the road or track to Marvel Loch. A signpost indicates a cemetery off to the left. Follow the sign and look out for the grave nearby.
