Notable as a land mark which marked the SW end of Lavender's Track which left the Albany
Highway near the old 85 mile peg.
Warrening Gully is a tributary of the Williams River. It drains country to the north running almost
parallel to the river which it joins west of the Quindanning bridge and it crosses the Marradong Road
1 km north of the Quindanning townsite.
An early pastoralist first in the area was John Page who in 1864 acquired a lease hold on the
Warrening Gully. His descendants farmed portions of the original lease for many years.
A young baby (1 day) was buried at "Salt Spring", on the Page property in 1907. (3)
The origin of the name is not known, but is likely to have been derived from an Aboriginal word.
Another deriative is "Warrenine Soils" which is a rich, red soil associated with dolorite rock.
