This homestead was the first home in this area. It was taken up by Jack Williams (Nunijup Jack) in 1865. Mystery surrounds his arrival to the area. One source describes him as an ex convict and sandalwood carter while another source says he may have jumped from a whaling ship, looking for a better life on land. Jack
Williams died in 1882.
The Nunijup Homestead is found at Hay Location 2 and 141. It was taken up by Jack Williams in 1865. The cottage was made from mudbrick with a corrugated iron roof. Today it still stands, but is in a very dilapidated condition.
