Statement of Significance

The place has historic value as remnant garden of Manager of Dalgety and Co Ltd, E T Hooley.
The trees were located in proximity to other mature exotic trees in The Esplanade which added to the landscape contribution of these trees.
The place is associated with E T Hooley who was an explorer to the Pilbara and Kimberley region, a pastoralist and State MP.
Part of the trees have been incorporated into an artwork at the site which notes its significance.

Physical Description

Three elm trees located on the north-west corner of the intersection of William St. and The Esplanade. Plaque unveiled by Premier David Brand 14 Dec 1964 with historic information.

History

Classified by the National Trust 5 November 1984. Remnant of the garden of manager of Dalgety & Co LTD, E. T Hooley who was an explorer to the Pilbara and Kimberley region of the State, a pastoralist and State MP.
