The Railway Platform has historic significance for its association with the operations of the railway in the town. Together with the Station Master's House [Place No. 15], the Railway Workers' Houses [Place No. 16], railway bridge [Place No. 19] and the railway dam [Place No. 17], the former Railway Platform assists with the interpretation of local railway heritage and history.
Located within the Recreation Complex, the railway platform is raised to a height of approximately l/2m and constructed from stone.
The railway line reached Mt Magnet in 1896. Services were suspended on the Mullewa-Meekatharra line on 1 May, 1978. Of the main railway station buildings on the line only Mount Magnet was demolished - this taking place in 1983. The stone buildings at the sidings in the district (Lennonville, Murrum and Yoweragabbie) were dismantled and bulldozed. The rails were removed during the 1980s. [Drawn to Mt Magnet, p224 & 265]
