The Ampol Roadhouse Dongara has some historic and social significance, given it was the first 24-hour roadhouse established between Perth and Geraldton and has been well known by travellers and truck drivers for many years.
Sited between the north bank of the Irwin River and Brand Highway, this painted brick building has a corrugated iron roof. Attached to the north facade is a steel awning, which is supported on metal posts.
The awning extends to cover the bowsers in front of the building.
Location 318 was originally owned by S.J. Phillips. In c.1906 it was divided into smaller blocks. Charles Osborn, a builder, built his home on this lot about 1910 and lived here for many years. In the 1960s, the property was sold by Ivy Bond to her nephews Ian and Dallas Osborn, who were the great grandsons of William Osborn who had built the blacksmith's shop, Place No. 106 (which is located almost opposite) in about 1868. They demolished the house and built the Ampol Roadhouse which was the first roadhouse in Dongara.
