The building has associations with law and order facilities in Mukinbudin.
A small timber framed and iron building with bars on the window.
In 1877, the first police presence in the area was a 'Special
Constable' who patrolled the pastoral sheep stations. In 1895, that post lapsed, and the closest police were stationed at Burracoppin. In 1911, when the Merredin Road Board was formed covering the area, the Merredin police were responsible, until 1923, when Mukinbudin then became part of the Nungarin Road Board and police were at that station. Despite Mukinbudin requesting the presence of a full time officer on several occasions, in 1945, 1948, 1951, and in earnest in 1954, it was not until 1956 when the Mukinbudin Road Board (formed in 1933) bought a house for the policeman, that a policeman was posted. In January 1956, the police station was opened, although, with no lock up facility, prisoners still had to be transported to Nungarin. In June 1957, a new cell block and office were constructed, followed by an exercise yard in 1961. In 1967, the gaol cell was no longer required as a new police facility was constructed in Mukinbudin. The former lock up was purchased by a local farmer and relocated to his farm south of Mukinbudin on a jinker. It was used as a storage shed until 1990, when it was jinkered back to Mukinbudin to be used as Mukinbudin Steel Fabricator's office
Integrity: The fabric is intact but not original site.
