The place is significant for the role it played in displaying pioneer activities to Prince Albert and Prince George in 1881 and is referred to in subsequent newspaper articles in England.

The place is rare as a Victorian Georgian wattle and daub cottage in Western Australia.

Physical Description

□ Believed to be wattle and daub. □ Its current status is unknown. From historical images, the cottage appears to have a verandah that is surrounded on all sides, with the verandah enclosed on the front corners. The corrugated iron roof extends over the verandah in a broken back fashion.

History

The property was originally purchased by Mt Henry Tully. It was bought from Mr Henry Tully by Mr David Young in 1865 (one of the first settlers in the area), and father of the Henry Young, William Wallace Young and Robert Muir Young, who eventually took over ownership and management of the farm from their father. By 1913 the three brothers had extended the property to 310 acres. Henry Tully and David Young are believed to be the first two settlers in the Young’s Siding area, and when the railway to Denmark went through the area it was named after David Young. The property has a small cottage called Marbelup, where in 1881 visiting brothers, Prince Albert and Prince George (later King George V of England) who arrived aboard HMS ‘Bacchante’ stayed in the Cottage for two nights.
